Bubba, the brave yellow Labrador who famously caught a chicken and helped unravel Alex Murdaugh’s alibi in the tragic 2021 murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, is a true hero. This 12-year-old pup’s unexpected role in the high-profile case—proving Alex was at the kennels that fateful night—earned him a special place in hearts worldwide. Now, Bubba is living a loving life with Blanca Simpson and her family, but his specialized care is taking a toll on their finances. We’re reaching out for your support to ensure Bubba thrives in his golden years.

After losing his first family, Bubba was welcomed with open arms by Blanca and her husband, who took on his care without ever asking for help. But Bubba’s health challenges have grown. Diagnosed with diabetes, he now requires twice-daily insulin injections (24 units morning, 21 units evening), a strict prescription diet (Hill’s w/d with cooked chicken), thyroid medication, and joint supplements. His diabetes has damaged his vision, leaving him nearly blind, and at his age, surgery wasn’t an option. Bubba also battles frequent urinary tract infections, prostate issues, ear infections, two ear hematomas requiring surgery, and ongoing gastric problems.

Despite these challenges, Bubba’s spirit shines. He thinks he’s a puppy, loves truck rides, and insists on being a lap dog despite his size! With the care of a dedicated veterinary team and Blanca’s family, he’s adapted to his world of shadowy figures, navigating life with courage. To keep him safe as a special needs dog, he’s escorted everywhere to prevent falls. A ramp was purchased to ease stress on his joints and help Blanca, who recently had surgery, transport him to vet visits and outings.

Blanca and her husband have managed Bubba’s care for years, cooking his special meals, administering medications, and paying vet bills in monthly installments. But with rising costs for his frequent vet visits, surgeries, medications (including insulin, Thyro-tabs, Nexgard Plus, and antibiotics), syringes, and supplements, the financial burden is overwhelming. Their dream is to fence their yard for Bubba’s safety, but for now, his medical needs are the priority.
