Seven months ago, our world was forever changed when my son, Caleb, received a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear: Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT). This is an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer, and it hit just days after Caleb’s 26th birthday. He should have been focused on his dreams and future, but instead, he was handed the unimaginable—a cancer diagnosis with a heartbreaking prognosis of only three years.

Caleb is a fighter. From the moment we got the news, he faced this battle with courage and determination. He immediately began chemotherapy treatments, going 3 to 4 times a week, enduring the physical and emotional tolls that come with such an intense regimen. But after just a few months, his body could no longer produce the white blood cells he needed to continue. His immune system was left dangerously compromised, and we were forced to stop treatment.

Despite this setback, we have not given up. Caleb has been accepted into clinical trials, and we now travel weekly to San Antonio in the hope of finding a treatment that can give him more time and a better quality of life. These trips are essential, but they come with a heavy cost—both financially and physically. The constant travel, medical bills, and living expenses have begun to overwhelm us, and the emotional strain has been indescribable.

As a family, we’ve always tried to handle challenges on our own, but this battle is bigger than we ever could have imagined.
