Hi! I’m Keith Herron, an actor, writer, and musician. Years and years ago, my older brother died suddenly at the age of eleven. My family decided to donate his heart, resulting in the second attempt anywhere in the world to transplant a heart in a child. Eight years ago, I decided to tell his story in words and music and wrote Kardia – a heart seeking musical. It celebrates Faith’s struggle to keep her family, and her son’s heart, alive.

That’s when Anne Pasquale joined the team. She’s an actress, writer, director, dramaturg – and my wife. Together, we’ve produced many shows. Together, we’ve workshopped Kardia; done readings; done rewrites.

Millions die because they don’t receive a life-saving organ. Through one mother’s story, you can inspire people everywhere to check that box on their driver’s license and join in the organ donation crusade. As our protagonist Faith says, “Don’t take your organs to heaven, ‘cuz heaven knows we need ‘em here.”

Today, when so many seem unable (or unwilling) to fully embrace those who hold views different from their own – be they siblings or neighbors – we think it’s important to remember that we have control over who we call “family”. No matter what barriers others erect, we control how wide we open our own arms.
