Hello, my name is Danielle Nelson. I am looking for some financial help for my parents. My mom Sharon Nelson has dealt with three rounds of cancer for the last 11 years and now my father has come down with a scary medical issue. My father's name is Troy Nelson. They are both lifetime residents to the city of Big Lake MN. I am the oldest out of the two daughters to Troy & Sharon Nelson. They also have three grandchildren, 1 granddaughter 10 years old and 2 grandsons 3 and almost 5.
My father is an incredibly amazing person. He is a hardworking, loving supportive family orientated person. He is only 57 years old, He works as a Overnight Housekeeper at the Saint Cloud VA.
This last weekend (9-20-9-22) unfortunately his health took a scary turn, and my mother had to get him into the hospital.
None of us were expecting what your about to read below: But this is why I am reaching out for some help for my parents due to my mom's already on-going medical bills my parents are going to really be struggling to cover my father's on-going medical bills. So that is why I created this GoFundMe account and a caring bridge website to help out my parents. They both mean the world to me.
Here is what has all happened to my father so far since Friday September 20, 2024:
Friday September 20, 2024 - Dad took the day off of work to have a telehealth appointment because he was not feeling good at all. He was telling the Dr, he was having a very bad cough, bad headache, nauseous, achy. Just all around not feeling good. They set him up for an appointment in person the next day.
Saturday September 21, 2024 - My Dad went into Riverway Clinic in Elk River where they did a in clinic checkup where they tested him for covid, and the flu and they all came back negative. Then they did a chest Xray where that showed up that my Dad had Pneumonia. They gave him 2 different antibiotics to hopefully help clear the Pneumonia. Then they sent him home.
Sunday September 22, 2024 - Mom said Dad was in and out of it all day. He couldn't stay awake; he was shaking so bad and was burning up so bad. When he was awake and would talk to her, he would be hallucinating and saying that he was ready to go see his mom (who passed away almost 4 years ago)
My Mom tried calming him down and telling him to sit back, relax you need your rest you're okay. He wasn't doing so good. He hasn't been able to eat or drink anything and Mom couldn't get him to take his medicine, so Mom decided it was time to bring him into the Emergency Room to be seen. It was around 9pm my mother brought my dad into the Monticello Emergency Room.
It wasn't until 12:40am (Monday September 23) they were able to actually get my father into a room. There they tested him again for Covid & Influenza and they both again came back negative. They did another set of Xray's on my dad along with blood work and found out that my Dad now has Severe Pneumonia in both of his lungs. They ended up admitted him into the hospital and started giving him a nebulizer treatment. They had to put him on 100% oxygen. By the next morning, they had to admit him into the ICU Unit.
Tuesday September 24, 2024 - This was very scary day for our family. My mother got to the hospital for them to tell her that they were just about to call her and let her know what happened to my Dad at 4am this morning. They said at 4am my dad was unresponsive for 10 minutes. They were almost unsure if they were even going to be able to revive him. They did end up reviving him and once they did, they ended up doing another set of Xray's of both of his lungs again. The right one was much worse than before. The left one was still the same. They told my mom they no longer have the support or resources at their facility to help care for my dad, so they are going to have to transport him to the Saint Cloud Hospital.
It wasn't until 1:30pm they were able to get him ready to be transported to Saint Cloud Hospital.
By 2:30pm he arrived at the Saint Cloud Hospital. My mom had to stop by to pick me up because I am unable to drive due to a motor vehicle accident I was in back in July. When my mom and I arrived at the hospital he was talking to Mom and me a little bit. He was having a very hard time staying awake. They told us they are going to have to put him on a ventilator to help him breathe and help clear out his lungs. But they had to wait for my sister to show up so we could all say anything we wanted to before they put him on the ventilator.
Around 4pm they were able to successfully put him on the ventilator. We had to leave the room for about an hour. By the time we got back to his room, they showed us that they already sucked out a bunch of blood and gunk out, to hopefully help him get better of course.
Wednesday September 23, 2024 - Mom came by to pick me up to see dad again. We arrived at the hospital around 10am. When we got there, they just got done doing a CT scan of Dad's lungs. They called us over and to the computer to show us that both of his lungs are now at 70% full of pneumonia.
He did end up having a blood clot/plug in one of his lungs that they were able to successfully remove. The Doctor said they will probably do the same procedure tomorrow. Today was the second one they have done so far.
They were able to successfully lower his oxygen down to 20% but it's still at a high dose.
Thomas the nurse was telling my Dad that my Mom and I were there to see him and ended up opening his eyes a little bit and was trying to talk but couldn't. Then he said your oldest daughter is here do you want to give her a sign that you know she is here. He ended up giving me a thumbs up. I lost it because I was so happy he was able to understand that.
Then I decided I was ready to go and hold his hand. I held it for a total of two hours (until we got kicked out at 8pm). As I was holding his hand, I told him I love him so much and I want him to be okay and get through this. He looked right at me with his eyes open and tried talking and nodding his head.
Then before I left, I kissed his hand and told him again how much I love him, and I will be back tomorrow with Mom. He nodded his head again. So he understood again.
