My name is Anne Kersten; I’m cousin and close friend to Angi Weicherding. This appeal is to support Dan and Angi, DJ, and Addy as they journey this unknown path in any way that we can, so I invite you to join me in this big embrace.
As you may have seen on Dan’s CaringBridge site, Dan has been diagnosed with Primary Plasma Cell Leukemia.
Below the original text is an update from Angi
As Dan, Angi, and their children work to help Dan with medical appointments, chemotherapy, and other daily tasks, it is expected that Dan will deplete his accrued employment benefits and move to long-term disability. Aside from the medical regimen and its expenses, there will also be significant time and money spent determining employment, financial, and legal issues. Angi’s new employer of four months (in Bloomington, MN) has been wonderfully understanding and compassionate; however, future lost pay for Angi is likely unavoidable, and adding undue stress and anxiety.
This GoFundMe appeal is to show support for the entire family and help wrap them in the arms of the community they have been such a vital part of for so many years. Many of you know that Angi and Dan are often some of the first helpers when someone else is in need. Please show your support now and stay connected through support as their path becomes clearer.
Update 10/16/25:
Dan's appointment this week was really rough. Dr's found a very unhappy lymph node in his pelvic area that they are going to biopsy, and his liver is not happy as all. (Liver scanned showed orange, red and yellow that were dull in color; then the lymph node that was bright flaming yellow. Dr. consulted with her colleagues who all agreed it needs to be biopsied to make sure it’s not another cancer.) Dan is also going to have an MRI of his brain because of persistent, severe headaches.
Everything that was preplanned at the U of M is on hold and new tests will start soon for the MRI and multiple biopsies. Dan also has to get back on chemo treatments in Hudson ASAP.
From Angi: Please keep Dan and all of us in your prayers. We appreciate you all more than you can know.
