My little sister and her boyfriend, Sebastian, are going through something I couldn’t imagine. My nephew was diagnosed at 34 weeks with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a birth defect that occurs when the diaphragm—the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen—does not fully form during fetal development. This condition allows organs to move up into the chest cavity, crowding the lungs and preventing them from growing properly.
He will need special surgery as soon as he’s born and will likely be in the hospital for several months. Thankfully, they were able to get into Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, the #1 hospital for CDH. She’s now 36 weeks pregnant, and they made the trip there yesterday.
Hannah and Sebastian could really use any and all help they can get during this challenging time. I wanted to share their story here, so if you’re able to donate, or even just share this post, it would mean the world to our family. Anything helps and will be greatly appreciated.
