Join Tom's Journey to Healing

On April 25, Tom woke up unable to speak. He went to the ER in Clinton, was told he had suffered a stroke, and was transported to Genesis in Davenport by ambulance. The following day, Tom learned he had an infection which had spread to his heart and caused his stroke. He would need surgery to repair the damage to his heart. On April 27, Tom was transported by ambulance to Iowa City Hospital for the surgery and to receive treatment for the infection. Nine days later, on May 6, Tom underwent surgery to repair his heart. The doctors did not expect Tom to survive after surgery because his heart was so weak. Tom fought to live and is still fighting despite several setbacks. As of the end of May, Tom remains in the ICU. The length of his hospital stay remains unknown with rehab to follow to rebuild his strength. Tom thanks everyone for their messages, calls, thoughts, and prayers as these help keep him going and give him the strength to keep fighting. He misses everyone and hopes to be home and back to work sooner rather than later.
