Sweet Tommy Fennig and his family – mom Vanessa, dad Dave, and twin brother Danny – could use your help.
After a week of 7 year old Tommy complaining of headaches, dizziness, and daily bouts of vomiting, Vanessa rushed him to the Pediatric ER at Lutheran General Hospital on Saturday, December 28th. He had a CT scan several hours later. Unfortunately, the scan revealed a tumor in the back of his brain, near his cerebellum. A temporary drain was immediately placed to relieve the pressure on Tommy's brain and to help drain the excess cerebrospinal fluid out of his head. Tommy had a six hour surgery to remove the tumor on Monday, December 30th.
The family is currently waiting on further updates from his next MRI and the detailed pathology results. Updates will be posted here as they learn more.
Tommy has a long road ahead of him, with his recovery likely including weeks of proton radiation therapy followed by chemotherapy. There are already plans for additional medical procedures and MRIs to monitor any future growth. The family is so grateful for how quickly the staff at Lutheran General Children's Hospital were able to identify the problem and begin the first round of attack to rid his body of cancer.
Tommy loves clay, Spongebob, Bluey and Dogman, and his brother Danny is his best friend!
Thank you for anything you're able to give to help the family have one less stressor during this scary time. Vanessa is planning to take FMLA from work to stay by Tommy's side for his treatment course. These funds would be used to support the family with paying medical bills, purchasing medical equipment, bridging the financial gap that will occur due to lost wages and for Tommy’s future. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a huge difference for the Fennig Family! Thank you for your generosity and support
