Join Tiffany's Journey to Beat Breast Cancer

July 17th was a routine mammogram for my wife Tiffany. She let her best friend and myself know she had another clean bill of health. Every year, she gets nervous for her yearly mammogram as her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38 and passed away 3 years later.

As she pulled into our driveway, the hospital called and asked her to return as the Radiologist wanted more views. A few minutes later, she is introduced to an ultrasound tech and off to get an ultrasound of her right breast. After that was done, the Radiologist came back in and wanted a biopsy of two areas in that breast. The biopsy happened on the 19th. Wednesday, July 24th, get a phone call that the biopsy showed that there were, in fact, cancer cells. Not sure how to process her fear of the word cancer as her mind races - she has two children, and she needs to be there to see them grow up – we try to be positive with the unknown.

She tested negative for estrogen and progesterone receptors, but they were waiting for HER2 results. What happened with her is the one time you don't want to be a triple negative. She has triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). It's more aggressive, and treatment is chemotherapy first and surgery second. The next appointment was for an echo to make sure her heart was healthy enough for the chemo. She received the okay with her heart and then needed to have surgery for an implanted port. The port makes it easier for healthcare providers to access a vein for chemo. Chemo is every 21 days for 6 treatments. She had her first treatment on August 22nd.
