Help pay for Thunder's vet bills:
- Thunder has been struggling with his diabetes for over a year now
- He was diagnosed with DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) Sunday May 19th
- He is staying the night in the hospital so they can monitor him closely (starting cost was $2,950)
Update:
After being hospitalized Sunday night, I received a call from the vet talking about what to do moving forward. I made the decision to visit Thunder and see if he was doing better. The vet spoke to us about doing an abdominal ultrasound to figure out if he has anything wrong with him. After an hour, we got the results back. Thunder was then diagnosed with pancreatitis and also had inflammation in his liver, infection in his intestines and gal bladder. The term used for this is triaditis. The vet said he was fighting three diseases at once not including his diabetes. With aggressive treatment, his odds weren't great and it was also possible he'd develop these issues again and again in the future as there is really no treatment for pancreatitis. I made the decision that Thunder was suffering too much and we euthanized Monday afternoon. My heart aches and he is missed more and more every single day. Thank you to everyone who shared this gofundme and to those who donated as well. You have no idea how much it means to me. I'll still leave it open if anyone wants to help chip in for his vet bills but do not feel obligated to make any donations. Thank you.
What happened:
Hello, my name is Yolanda and I'm Thunder's owner. Thunder has been struggling with diabetes for quite sometime. This past week his appetite slowly started decreasing and I administered Mirataz, to increase his appetite. By Friday, May 17th, he was barely eating which meant I have been unable to give him his daily insulin shots. Saturday, May 18th, he did not eat all day and has been very weak/lethargic. Sunday, he was a bit more alert but still highly unwell and even unable to control his bladder. We rushed Thunder to the emergency room where they checked his vitals (low temperature and heart rate, severely dehydrated) ran tests and he was diagnosed with DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which means his blood has started to become acidic. They started treating him immediately, replenishing fluids through IV catheter and also helping with electrolyte imbalances. Thunder is staying in the hospital overnight to stabilize him. The vet is also hoping to do an abdominal ultrasound to check his pancreas for inflammation, liver and kidneys to figure out the cause.
How you can help:
Any amount is a huge help! He may need to stay more than 24 hours in the hospital so the price of this fund may subject to change. All I ask is that you keep sharing to help my precious baby boy! Thank you for your donations and shares ❤️
