Join this historical change in Bahn Town, Liberia

“Did you know the expression “Pandora’s Box” means the source of great and unexpected problems? Yet, something so beautiful and shiny remains at the bottom of the box. It is HOPE.” - Mark Manson

To exemplify this hope, can you imagine being 12 years old and seeing only 5% of your peers fortunate enough to attend high school and 95% of children left to work on farms? Take into consideration that the nearest high school from Bahn Town is four hours, and the capital of Monrovia is seven hours away with minimal resources to commute.

In its treacherous tranquility, human beings sometimes take small things for granted, like having access to free education.

Who am I….
My name is Prince Harmon. I’m the son of the late Rose Ross Dickens, a phenomenal Liberian philanthropist woman. She was the founder of the Dickross Opportunity Foundation in 1972, with the head offices initially established in Ganta, Nimba County in Liberia, West Africa. Then in 1985, DOF registered in Los Angeles, CA. Later on, in 2006, she registered DOF in Providence, RI. Born and raised in Bahn Town, Rose started her mission to PROVIDE AN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT WHICH MEETS THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS WITH VARIED LEARNING SKILLS.

From 1972 to 1980, Dickross Opportunity Foundation established and operated a private school where children learned the skills for agricultural development and had women empowerment programs in Liberia. DOF cared for and provided FREE education to over 500 children who have become successful adults with their own families. Our programs were welcomed and supported by the government of Liberia, the US Peace Corps program, the US Ambassador self-help program, UNICEF, UNDP, WEP, and other non-governmental organizations operating in Liberia at that time.

The above picture showed when my mother made the headline news in Monrovia, Liberia, as the first Liberian woman to open up a free tuition school.

During the Liberian civil war in 1989, our entire establishment and facilities were burnt down, vandalized and looted. Two of my brothers, Charles and Jerome were killed. The war ended in 2003.

Our second wave of conflict was in 2014, with 3 West African nations, including Liberia, being plagued with the Ebola virus disease. It affected over 9,000 people, according to the World Health Organization, the Center of Disease Control center, and the government of Liberia.

“Where there’s hope, there’s life.” -Anne Frank

Our short-term goal is to get furniture, school supplies, and funds to pay teachers. Our long-term goal is to open a high school in the village for the first time ever. I will continue my mother’s legacy with her mission in mind and HOPE. Despite all of this, we still believe in the Liberian people and the children who became orphans and victims by no fault of their own. We also believe in the goodwill of our shared world. My mother’s dream was to go back to her village and build a high school since most children only completed the 6th grade. Unfortunately, she got really ill and passed away before doing that. I want to continue her dream while she’s sitting up in heaven watching over me. Join us in raising $50,000 to furnish and remodel our elementary school and build a high school in Bahn Town, Liberia.

With your support we plan to provide 200 of these chairs to the children at Dickross Opportunity Foundation.

As you read our plea for help, please take a moment to think about what it would mean to a person you give support to; a hope for them to live and help others who might face life situations like theirs.

This foundation has a 501c3, so all donations will be tax-deductible. Thank you for extending your love to those who all need you.” - Rose Ross Dickens
