In June 2021, while riding with friends and a family friend, our son, Bo Galloway, and his friend's vehicle were hit by a drunk/high driver. Bo flatlined while being transported to the hospital. It took six plus hours for them to get Bo in a stable position so we could at least see him. After three weeks and several surgeries at OU Medical, Bo was flown to Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO. Because Bo had repeated medical issues, we ended up at Craig Hospital and Sweedish Hospital for seven months. Bo is now quadriplegic at 18 1/2 years old. He was 15 1/2 at the time of the accident; he has had countless surgeries. Since we have been home, Bo has been attending therapies at The Project 34 in Bethany, OK, twice a week. For quite a while, we, were traveling to Texas, where he had therapy at Bachik Methods as frequently as possible.
We are a very old-school family, that has worked for everything we have ever had. Our community, on their own, raised over $100,000.00 for our family and two other families that had medical issues as well.
We built our home when our kids were little; the cost to modify our home was going to be $45,000 plus dollars to modify; for that reason, we sold our home and our farm life setting to move to a home nearby that we modified to be more accessible for our son.
My husband was able to connect us with Verita Neuro in Bangkok, we met by tele-med with the doctors and have communicated with other families who have had family members go through this process. Since doing so, we have decided to put down our pride and give it our all to try and raise funds for Bo to have this surgery. This procedure will surgically implant two spinal cord stimulators on his spine, many surgeries have taken place and have been more than successful.
We are asking that anyone able to help us raise funds for this surgery and therapies following as this surgery is not covered by health insurance. In our experience, when dealing with spinal cord injuries, many business' do not deal with insurance because it does not allow them to treat the actual issue. Insurance forces them to take baby steps, spinal cord injuries can be a very time sensitive issue as your spinal cord controls every part of your body.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about our story. Below is a link that gives more information about this surgery and how this can help Bo re-gain his independence.
