Jimmy Judge is a celebrated, First-Responder hero to many working in the profession as well as the community
itself. As a 33-year active employee of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) his tenure is one of bravery
and courage in serving and protecting the community he was raised in and loves dearly. In serving his
community Jimmy has been a true example of a leader who has given his career his all! Jimmy made
Sergeant very early in his career (One of the youngest to make Sergeant) and just a couple of years later
made Lieutenant. He was in charge of the Field Force for 20+ years until he was promoted to Assistant
Chief of Zone 1 in Jacksonville. His achievements speak to his extraordinary dedication to a profession
that he loves and the community he serves. Jimmy’s charisma and his good-natured kindness has made
him an esteemed Brother to all the ‘Sisters/Brothers-in-Blue’ as well as also being highly regarded within
the community that he so uniquely connects with and cares about, on a daily basis.

Heck, the JSO Mounted Unit has even named one of its horses after Jimmy, meet equine enforcer, “Judge.”

Shockingly, Jimmy was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (aka: ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in April of 2020. It was unbelievably jarring to Jimmy, his wife, Shannon and their son, Jakie - as well as family, friends, and co-workers. The unbelief felt by so many was surreal. Since high school Jimmy has been an example of good health as most of you know. Never would you think that such a person would be struck with such a terrifying disease as ALS.

Just as unsettling as the diagnosis itself, Jimmy would come to find that there are so few medical options available, and that most suffering with ALS are forced to choose supplemental treatments, therapeutics, and medicines that insurance may only pay a very small part of or are not covered at all by insurance. Many of the facilities and hospitals that offer these additional options are either out of town, or completely out of state. Add in the hurdles of the extra expenses of travel, accommodations, and other necessities, also not covered by insurance, to these uncharted waters of a journey that is already riddled with the obstacles of complications, difficulties, delays, medical setbacks – not to mention just the sheer weight of the overwhelming stress that is being shouldered by Jimmy and Shannon (stress that his wife has referred to as insidious) – and you have a recipe for a crushed spirit and discouragement that has the potential to slowly quell the battle cry within.

Jimmy, being the man that he is, has been battling with a heart full of fire, the courage of a wolf, and the steadfastness of the prayers of a legion of Angels! This battle is not only for himself. His fight is for the love of his life, Shannon; and to be the example of courage, bravery and a Father’s unequaled love for his only child, his son, Jakie. Jimmy stands as an example to his family, friends and anyone that knows or meets him, of what the true meaning of VALOR is.

As the fellow high school alumni of Jimmy, and his wife Shannon, it is our greatest ‘Rebel’ honor to be able to stand up and help Jimmy bear up under the weight of this. We are humbly asking that anyone and everyone get on board with our very own, home-grown, hometown HERO!! With the donations of friends and strangers alike, we can help battle alongside our brother in helping Jimmy beat this disease and raising ALS awareness! From all of us who attended N.B Forrest we are sending Jimmy a big ‘ole REBEL YELL filled with love, admiration, and prayers!!
All proceeds will go directly to Jimmy and Shannon to help lessen the financial burden, raise their spirits, encourage, and renew the battle cry within. Whether you are or are not in a position to donate, we do ask that everyone send up prayers for Jimmy and family – your prayers are more precious than gold!
