Dear Friends,
My heart is heavy as I write this, but I need to reach out for help for my baby girl, Sakari. Recently, she was diagnosed with a tumor in her bladder that has been identified with some cancerous characteristics. The tumor has grown to where you can feel it externally, and I can’t help but feel a wave of sadness seeing her health begin to decline.
As many of you know, I am the proud owner of Wags for Walkies, where I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet so many incredible people here in Bordentown City. You know how deeply I love animals, and Sakari holds the most special place in my heart. She has been my rock, my confidant, and an endless source of joy in my life.
This past year, Sakari started struggling with recurring urinary tract infections (UTIs). I took her to the vet in February, and despite an analysis being done, I wasn’t informed of the results. The vet never told me the results. This oversight delayed the discovery of her tumor, and I can’t help but wonder how things might have been different if I had received the information sooner.
When her symptoms persisted, I returned to the vet for follow-ups in May and June, only to receive the heartbreaking news in July and August after ultrasounds revealed the tumor. While I am relieved that the vet responsible for the lack of communication is no longer at the clinic, the frustration is still very strong, knowing this situation could have been addressed months earlier.
At only 7 years old, Sakari is still so young, and I am desperate to give her the chance she deserves for a happy, healthy long life. She needs surgery to remove the tumor, which comes with a daunting cost of $7,000—an amount that is beyond my means right now.
This ordeal doesn’t only affect me; it also impacts her sister and best friend, Tara. While Tara is healthy and still a pain in the butt, her world would feel incomplete and be devastated without Sakari by her side. Their bond is something unreal, and I know that securing Sakari’s treatment means securing Tara’s happiness too.
To my amazing clients at Wags for Walkies, dear friends, and the bonded community of Bordentown City: I’m reaching out even with my pride trying to stop me, asking for your support during this difficult time. It crushes me to ask for financial assistance, but Sakari means everything to me. If you’ve ever witnessed her happy stomps when she's getting butt scratches or a drive-by kiss while we're walking through town, then you know just how remarkable she is.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly to her surgery and care. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this message on your socials would be a tremendous help.
Sakari has filled my life with immeasurable love and happiness, and I will do anything within my power to help her through this challenge. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for your kindness and generosity during this incredibly tough time.
Cheers,
Liza
