Join the Fight Against Stage 2 Cancer

I went in for a check-up on April 15, 2024 but was sent to the emergency room and found myself on the operating table within a few hours. The swelling I had gone in to get looked at turned out to be testicular cancer.

While they were able to successfully remove the tumor (so long right nut!) the cancer had unfortunately already spread to my lymph nodes.

The news of Stage 2 cancer at age 29 hit our family of 4 really hard. Our 6- and 3-year-old children don’t really understand what’s going on more than “daddy has been really sick and will continue to be sick for a few months”.

The good news is, this type of cancer is typically curable through chemotherapy. I’m on a 12-week program where I’m in for infusions of both cisplatin and etoposide every day (Monday through Friday) for a full week. Those days usually are about 6-7 hours long in the hospital. Then I get two weeks off to recover and recuperate.

We perform that cycle 4 times. After the 12 weeks, they’ll give me another scan and hopefully that will confirm the cancer is gone. If the cancer persists after all the treatments, then things get a lot more grim.

Overall, we are lucky we caught it as early as we did and that it’s testicular cancer. I have a 90% chance to survive this cancer, which is much better than most other types of cancer.

The medical bills from the emergency surgery and all the treatments have really been piling up. Anything you are able to donate is welcome and appreciated during this difficult time.
