In September 2021, I heard the words no one ever wants to hear—You have breast cancer. A few years ago, I had a partial mastectomy, but now the cancer has come back aggressively. It is now on both my breasts and has progressed to Triple Invasive Metastatic cancer. The doctors in my local and surrounding areas either cannot treat it or do not accept my insurance.
I’m a 34-year-old single mom of three boys. They’ve seen me at my weakest, but my deepest prayer is for them to see me strong again—laughing around the dinner table, cheering at football games, and holding my youngest son as he falls asleep while rubbing my ear.
I have received several jobs that I could not work because of this disease. For example, for years, I had dreamed of working as a correctional officer at a local prison and I had finally gotten the job! My dream job had finally come true. Less than a month after starting the job, I had to resign due to my illness. When I went to see my cancer doctor, I was told that I had to immediately begin radiation again, and that shattered my world. Needless to say, I had to quit my job and haven’t been able to work since then.
I believe in God’s healing and stand on His promise. But faith requires action. I know that there are doctors who can treat this cancer, they just do not practice in my area or accept my insurance. I need help to get to them—to fight, to heal, and to show my boys that hope, faith, and love always win. I want to live and not die. I want to continue my fight of faith by receiving better healthcare, and to do so, I need your help. I am asking for your help so I can get the treatment I so desperately need. My goal is to go to MD Anderson, where I can receive the best care. Any support brings me one step closer to that reality for myself, my family, and most of all, my boys.
