I'm crossing my quarter-of-a-century! As I celebrate my 25th birthday this year, instead of gifts, I would love your quarters, cash, and online donations for the Mountain Aid Project: a state-approved non-profit organization that was quickly formed after Hurricane Helene. It has helped provide food, water, shelter, and other resources to survivors of the hurricane. They helped saved lives with the emergency insulated shelters they built last winter. The Mountain Aid Project has also helped Carolinians after those wildfires a few months ago.

Besides COVID, Hurricane Helene has been the worst major disaster to happen to me so far, and I was shocked to find out how much worse the deaths and devastations were just an hour north of me, so the cause is something I have a personal connection to. I also have a personal connection to the people on this nonprofit because my beloved clinic owner, Dr. Chapman, is on its board, and her childhood lifetime best friend is the head/leader of the non-profit! All of the Mountain Aid Project workers are unpaid volunteers, so 100% of what's given goes to actually helping people in need. I chose to support this non-profit for my birthday because of the same concern you have: does what's given actually do what it's supposed to do? And there is no charity I have greater faith in.

I think it's also good to highlight this non-profit because Hurricane Helene is no longer on people's minds, but survivors who have lost all of their lifetime material possessions won't gain all that back in just a year.
