Join #TEAMCHRIS to battle Pancreatic Cancer!
A lot of you know my brother, Chris Ruby, aka Cdawg, aka C, aka Dad/Husband/friend. If you don’t know him, personally, I would like to introduce him. Chris is 55 years old, married to Stacy, and lives in Alpena, Michigan. He has two daughters, Abby 14, and Emmi 12. He is a juvenile caseworker, in the probate division of Otsego County (MI). He is very active with his daughters, his church, and with the community whenever it needs him. If you know him, he has, undoubtably, touched your life in a kind way, he’s just that kind of guy. He’s always there when you need him, and never himself asking for help. Well, now he needs your help.
In late July, Chris wasn’t feeling well. He ended up going from the hospital in Alpena, to a larger facility in Midland (MI), after showing a Bilirubin (enzymes that help with pancreas and liver function) counts that were almost 15 times the normal. He had a procedure (stent placement) there to relieve a blockage, caused by an unknown mass, in the hope the levels would return to normal and the mass could be removed. This did not happen. Chris had bilirubin levels that rose to as high as 25 times the normal, and he was getting critically ill.
In mid-August, Chris was sent to Detroit Henry Ford Hospital, and they were able to replace the stent, and relieve the bilirubin levels. Unfortunately, during this time, the mass was diagnosed as Pancreatic Cancer.
Chris, and Stacy, spent the week at Henry Ford, meeting with a large, multi-disciplinary team of Cancer specialists, and formulating a plan for his fight to be healthy again. This fight begins with stabilizing his bilirubin and other enzyme levels, so that he can start on multiple rounds of Chemotherapy prior to surgical removal of the mass. The hope is to keep the cancer localized, and for Chemo to keep the mass off blood vessels it has encroached on.
During this time, Chris and Stacy have, and will continue to have, out of pocket medical expenses/Deductibles, travel and lodging costs, possible wage losses, and just trying to keep life normal for their girls, and themselves, as much as is possible.
I would ask you to help Chris, and his family, in anyway you can. If you would pray, first and foremost, as God will play the biggest role in the way only his love and grace can.
