Hi friends and community,
Many of you know Spencer’s parents—two incredibly kind, humble people who have poured so much into everyone they know. Now, their sweet 5-month-old son, Spencer, is fighting a rare and serious illness called Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma (KHE)—a vascular tumor that causes his platelets to dangerously cluster in one area of his body, leaving him unable to clot and at serious risk.
Spencer was rushed to the ER on June 17th, and has since been transferred to All Children’s Hospital where he’s undergone countless procedures: blood draws, CT scans, echocardiograms, EKGs, a PICC line placement, multiple transfusions—and he’s just 5 months old. Despite everything, this little fighter continues to smile at nurses and light up the floor with his dimples.
Doctors are working carefully to manage Spencer’s condition, as his platelet levels remain critically low. A tissue biopsy and MRI may be necessary soon, but can only be done if it’s safe. For now, his care includes multiple medications, steroid treatments, and constant monitoring. His family is looking at weeks in the hospital while they wait for his body to respond to treatment.
After carefully reviewing their insurance coverage, Spencer’s parents hoped it would be enough—but they are now facing significant out-of-pocket medical bills, along with meals, travel, and other expenses while they stay by Spencer’s side day and night. In their own words:
“We didn’t want to take from others if we would have everything covered, but unfortunately it looks like we are responsible for more than we expected. If we end up with more than what our bills are, our plan is to donate back to All Children’s for other KHE patients and treatments.”
Let’s rally around this family and help lift some of the weight off their shoulders. Every donation helps them stay focused on what matters most—getting their baby boy well.
Thank you for your love, your prayers, and your support.
