We’re excited to share that we’re raising support to take Sophia to a 3-week intensive therapy program that has made a huge difference for her each year she has gone. This program is so important because we want to make the most of every moment she has to improve, particularly while she is young and new developments are easier. We know that investing in her therapy now will make a lasting impact.
This therapy isn’t just about speeding up her progress—it’s also about educating us, her parents, on how to medically care for her body as it changes, and building strength that helps her to access things like education, relationships and communication more comfortably and easily. The intensive setting also provides a refreshing sense of belonging for our family as we connect with other families facing similar challenges.
We’re so excited because right now Sophia is experiencing several breakthroughs in her development. She’s on the edge of new milestones, like finding new ways to communicate, sitting independently, and using her hands more effectively. We’re eager to maximize this window of opportunity by intensifying her therapy, so we can support her as she works toward these exciting goals.
Through previous therapy intensives, we’ve seen her range of motion improve, her ability to bear weight strengthened, and breakthrough development in her ability to use an eye gaze communication device—something we’d been working on for over two years. For the first time, she communicated the words, “I love you, mom,” using that device.
We’ve been so touched by the support of friends, family, and church community who have supported Sophia by covering therapy and housing costs in the past. Every year, NAPA therapy intensives cost around $10,000 not including travel, housing or meals for three weeks. None of these expenses are covered by insurance.
It’s been really beautiful each time to see a community of loving people come together to support Sophia in this way. To us, it is a demonstration of the love of Jesus in her life and a reminder that it truly takes a village to help a child thrive. If you’ve contributed to these visits to NAPA in the past, you have directly supported her progress and given her the best chance to flourish. Thank you for being part of her journey!
