Kevin “Snit” Fitzpatrick needs our help!

Longtime Houston based musician, friend, bandleader, & brother needs our help.

My name is Matthew Robert Johnson and Snit is one of my oldest friends.

For all of you that have gotten in touch with questions about Snit over the last few days, we here at Camp Snit would like to say thank you! As you may know, Snit is too stubborn to give up this easily without a fight. As he likes to say, he will “Go Down Swinging”—to borrow a Tom Petty tune reference.

We are mainly getting these updates from Mr. Adrian Pretz. Thank You Adrian!

To get you up to speed; on January 22nd, Snit had an episode with his electrolytes and passed out at his house. By a miracle, he was able to call 911 and they came and got him to Methodist Hospital. Once there, his kidneys stopped processing any proteins and he was sedated to aid in draining fluid from his lungs.

Since that day, he has been in Methodist Hospital and has been battling for his life. He was sedated for multiple days to help in his healing process. This past Monday, the 27th, he became conscious for the first time in days. He is making progress, albeit very slowly. He fades in and out of consciousness.

I will be posting regular updates regarding Snit’s condition as we learn more from those close to the situation.

He will be at Methodist Hospital for the foreseeable future but visitation is extremely limited. Please get in touch with the hospital if you would like to have anything delivered to him.

Room 1112 - Neural ICU

Please consider giving a few bucks for this Go Fund Me and possibly sharing it to your social media as well. Every dollar will go directly to Snit to help him cover these expenses.

Thank You All So Much!

I will update you very soon as we learn more. If anyone has any questions for me, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Matt

—from Adrian Pretz - He’s conscious, doing much better He managed a snort of a response to a joke/insult… if he wasn’t hooked up all kinds of IV drips/monitors/medical apparatus/etc and was able to raise his arms he would’ve given me a middle finger…Spread the good news!!

UPDATE February 1 - 2:30pm
— from Adrian Pretz - “Just got a call from the staff He’s driving them up the wall wanting to go home They’re still concerned about his breathing so he’ll be there a few more days I’ll head back to the hospital in a couple hours” —

UPDATE - February 3rd - 1:30pm
— from Adrian Pretz - “Back at the hospital Doctors called me earlier this morning asking for approval to put Snit back on a breathing tube He’ll be under extreme sedation for the next few days” - He IS improving.   This is to just help him with puff of air so his lungs remain clear.  Keep Snit in your thoughts!

10:45 am 2/5 Update on Snit -“….. I went to visit with Snit this morning , he is in and out of consciousness and heavily sedated but the nurse said he was stable and going to have a procedure today , I asked him to squeeze my hand if he knew I was there and he did keep the prayers coming I told him that he is in EVERYBODY’S Thoughts and Prayers and that we are all pulling for him … “

Update 5:15pm on 2/6/25 - from Adrian Pretz - The nursing staff is now acutely aware of the unparalleled stubbornness of Snit. He’s stabilized and tomorrow he’ll have a tracheotomy done Hopefully it’ll aid the recovery process and get him back on his feet again -

Julie & I just spent about 30 minutes with Snit he seemed much better than when I was here on Wednesday , very coherent today , the nurse says he’s doing much better, he was asking for ice chips , and his glasses , we even got him to smile several times … he grabbed a hold of Julie’s hand and smiled we told him everyone is thinking about him and to keep fighting ….

Update 2/18/25 - 5pm -from Matt -  I FaceTimed with Snit today!  He had been moved into a “regular” room.  No more ICU.   We had a nice, albeit brief, chat.  He’s ready to get out
and begin his rehabilitation process.  SO thankful for all of YOU!

Update 2/19/25 - via Adrian Pretz -
The physical therapist got him a walker, but his legs have atrophied so badly from being bedridden for a month now, he cannot hold himself up Hopefully tomorrow he’ll be able to eat real food again.

Snit 2/24 update - via Adrian Pretz - “He did a session with the physical therapist earlier today, but is still pretty weak from spending over a month unable to walk. Feisty as ever, and finally able to eat real food he’s feeling better. Snit had a surprise today when Doug Shemel got some of Snit’s old Atlanta crew at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack to connect with him via FaceTime - definitely an unexpected treat!”

Snit Thursday 2/27 update: - via Adrian Pretz - “We had a chill day watching an Atlanta Braves spring training game with another day of physical/respiratory/occupational therapists taking turns with him. Snit update from Methodist Hospital 3/7 8:20 pm - via Adrian Pretz
“After 49 days, he’s finally been released from the hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation facility Stopped by earlier today to check the place out and was impressed Thanks to everyone for your concerns and support… here’s hoping we can get him to make a cameo appearance for SnitPatrick’s Day at the Big Easy on March 16th”

Snit has been released to Garden Terrace of Houston.  Please, anyone that wishes to get in touch with him there, please calll or stop by:

Snit update 5 pm 3/15 - via Adrian Pretz -  He’s stoked for his grand appearance Sunday at the Big Easy… and genuinely impressed with the kindness of everyone looking out for him He’s made significant progress in physical therapy and happy the tube has been removed See y’all tomorrow!”

Update March 20th, 2025 via Matt:
After taking a couple days to gather all dollars and cents and things of that fudiciary nature…I am very happy to announce that because of all of YOU, along with a successful Snitpatrick’s Day this past Sunday, we are able to offer a very substantial amount to Snitty to help him in the coming months with bills and such.  I truly can’t thank everyone that was involved and everyone that has donated enough!  Much, much love to all of you!

Snit 3/22 update via Adrian Pretz - “He’s able to stand on his own now, and can walk with the walker for 300+ feet. Brought him some Taco Bell & granola bars and glad to see other visitors bringing him more snacks to get his weight back Still battling Humana about aftercare upon being released next Friday. American healthcare is all about corporate profits, not providing proper physical & occupational therapy for patients Seeing the difference therapy makes over the last few days is great, but he’s nowhere close to be able to function on his own”

Update on 3/27/25 - via Adrian Pretz - FINAL report from the rehabilitation facility SNIT HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!!
