This is Sey Attractive. Her father is Ahtractiv from the SF Valentino Egyptian Arabian line. Her mother is Sey Vanessa with Polish bloodlines which include Sey Aaladin+, Aseyr, *Serafix, Witeza and Witez II.
Those that know Polish Arabian bloodlines will definitely recognize Witez II as an outstanding Grand Champion stallion, who came to the United States post World War II. A biography was written of his story by Linell Smith and I highly recommend reading it to any young child or adult who loves Arabian horses.
Attractive is the last bred Arabian from Hidden Springs Farm which was located in Weedsport NY by Peggy and George Harris III. Peggy and George Harris III bred, owned and showed many Arabians and there might still be individuals who recognize their name in old breeding books and memories.
Attractive's story is nothing as grandiose as her history suggests. I had fallen in love and leased her mother Sey Vanessa for 7 years and during that time Attractive was born. She doesn't have any kind of fantastic training, and never won any ribbons, but she was the filly of my heart horse so I took her on as my responsibility and cared for her now going on 23 years.
Over time, I have come to appreciate the privilege of watching Attractive age. She has acquired many normal aging pains such as arthritis and Cushing Syndrome but there is one ailment that has bothered her the most which is located in her poll.
When she was 7 and we were just beginning her training, she bumped her head on a low wooden beam in the barn. Like most life events, I was there for it. I was 14 and we were introducing the clippers to her and WHAM! Her head went up and hit the beam above the crosstie. Afterwards, her head went down low and she looked at me as if to say "Ow". We watched her and worried for a bit-- but didn't notice anything significant at the time with her behavior or pain levels. At the time, I had no idea what a significant toll that moment would be nearly 15 years later.
Since then, we have noticed that Attractive has had frequent bouts of pain in her poll, especially during times of stress or extreme hot and cold weather. X-rays and ultrasounds have shown bone fragments and recently an inflamed navicular bursa. With the recent temperatures dropping below zero in NY, she again has had another issue with her poll becoming extremely swollen, hard and painful. Her diagnosis is currently labeled as Poll Evil.
To ease her pain our vet has suggested we surgically remove the plasma debris localized in her painful bursa sac. Blood work does not suggest she has an infection, but that she has injured that area causing the frequent pain and inflammation.
This surgery will cost anywhere from 2,500 to 3,500. This quote will be significant on my Art Teacher Salary, but I believe that I am investing in the 78% chance that she will recover to a normal life without pain.
Attractive and I have lived a beautiful life together, but I don't want to our journey to end accepting this kind of reoccurring pain.
I hope those reading this might consider our story and help us fund her surgery.
