Help Serenity on her healing journey

Aloha dear friends! Our dear sister, Serenity, who has been living and working on the Big Island of Hawaii since 2020, has been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Living in rural Hawaii, good timely medical care is extremely challenging to obtain and the closest cancer care is located on the island of Oahu. Since learning of her diagnosis on June 13, she still has yet to meet with a medical oncologist or get a care plan in place. Knowing time is of the essence, Serenity will travel on July 23rd to see a highly regarded oncologist at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center in Columbus, Ohio. Once she has a care plan in place, she may likely seek treatment at UC Health Diane O’Connor Thompson Breast Center in Denver, Colorado, where much of her family lives. Whether she decides to get her treatment on Oahu or the mainland, it will require airfare, accommodations, travel expenses and of course extensive medical bills. Serenity stopped working in early July and is now on extended medical leave from her work as a psychologist at the Hawaii Island Community Health Center in Pahoa, just outside of Hilo.

Anyone who knows Serenity knows she has devoted her life to helping others. She moved to Hawaii, in large part, to provide services to a highly underserved community. Specializing in trauma, depression, and anxiety, she has become an invaluable asset to the people on the island of Hawaii. When she has free time, she enjoys yoga, meditation, going to the beach, paddle boarding, snorkeling, dancing, singing, kirtan, drumming, traveling, and spending time with friends and her three cats.

Serenity has given so much of herself to others. If you are able, we are asking you to please donate to this fund to help with expenses related to getting the best cancer care she can.
