Join Seamus' Fight for Full Recovery

Ok, so I rarely ever ask for help. Jeff and I are super scrappy, resourceful people and used to doing things ourselves and always finding a way. However, the last year has just been horse after horse that have come to us with various issues that have been costly and it's draining me mentally and financially. I joke daily I should scrap riding altogether, become a non-profit and just do rehab/restarts as it seems this is the path the universe has chosen for me anyway!

Seamus, my new 17.2h Tb, came to me a little over 2 months ago. I have known him and his former owner for almost 3 years, he has always been a super steady, quiet, sweet, sane boy! When she offered him to me due to lack of time I jumped on it. I could tell within a week or so that he just wasn't himself, he was super spooky which was really out of character, and his back was really sore in a way that was not work or saddle fit related due to him having been out of work for most of the winter. I thought maybe it was the move itself, maybe he didn't like goats, maybe it was saddle, teeth, vet issue etc. I had all the professionals out to evaluate him, we ruled out saddle issues, we ruled out teeth, a 21 day regime of robaxin and equiox did nothing, he got almost daily body work and in-hand only work…his spookiness was becoming dangerous, so I had Dr.Tusch come for some chiro and bodywork. We tested for lyme, vitamin E, Thyroid, EPM, and a CBC, everything came back positive, which so far has added up to over 2600.00 and the bills continue to grow as we treat. Seamus will need extensive body work, a long time regime of EPM meds and supplements, we will need to address the lyme further, and he will need a pretty heavy duty ulcer treatment after all the gut disruption due to treatment. I can do the bodywork and natural treatments myself, what I am asking help for is the multitude of treatments, bodywork, and supplements, and the potential for relapse as about 60 to 70 percent of horses treated for EPM will improve, but it is estimated that only 15 to 25 percent will recover completely. I feel optimistic but I want to give him his best shot!

These horses did not break here, they came here and because we are meticulous at listening as best as we know how we unearth their stories and find what is begging for fixing. I am 200% dedicated to giving these animals the best we can. I hate to admit that I am tapped out….with younger children, hay coming in soon, our truck dying and costing thousands to fix, and now Seamus’ new EPM/lyme/thyroid diagnosis, I am reaching out for help.

I am not looking for a handout…I want to give back…Seamus’ vet bills are already up to 2600.00 and will continue to rise. I put it on care credit but there's only so much on that limit, so I am asking if anyone would be willing to donate and help me get Seamus back to his healthy, happy self.

I have never really loved the idea of GoFundMe for vet bills on personal animals, however this is a horse that has only been here 2 months, not a long time personal horse, and he needs all the help he can get. His former owner is going through her own health journey, hence why they have entrusted me with him, and he deserves the very best care we can give him…while me still being able to feed at least my family (feeding myself is optional‍♀️)

No donation is too small, and I would love to give back in the way of scheduled farm visits, meet and greet of Seamus and the others that have benefited from our care over the last few years, and welcome you to come and see how we operate. I would be happy to give back in the way of wellness coaching for horses and humans, nutritional coaching and more!

Again, I am not looking for a handout or people to pay for my vet bills, I of course understand fully the responsibility that comes with having horses, but we have been sucker punched with multiple unexpected rehab horses in the last year, on top of our already high maintenance senior herd and I am leaning into our community and families to see if anyone may be willing to help!

I will share updates on Seamus’ healing, and share what I have and will learn with others who may be going through the same things…if anyone has any questions feel free to reach out..this is a very hard thing to do, but it's not about me, it's about giving this beautiful horse his biggest and best chance at a full recovery! Thank you all so much for considering helping!
