Hi, my name is Rochelle, and I never thought I would be writing something like this. A few weeks ago, I heard the words that changed my life forever: You have breast cancer.
I am still at the beginning of this journey, trying to process what it all means. I am scared—scared of what’s ahead, scared of how my body will change, and scared of the financial burden that comes with treatment. I do have health insurance. I will need to take significant time off work for appointments, treatments, and recovery. As a first responder working multiple jobs just to make ends meet, I do not have the financial cushion to absorb these unexpected costs.
Life has never been easy for me, but through everything, I’ve learned to count my blessings. And strangely enough, I consider even this diagnosis a blessing. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have had the support system I do today. I carry a lot of shame and guilt from my past, I know that God has a plan for me. My faith will carry me through this.
I am asking for help—something that is very hard for me to do. Any donation, no matter how small, will go toward my medical expenses and the lost wages from time off work. If you cannot give financially, I ask for your prayers, your encouragement, and for you to share my story.
Cancer may have changed my life, but it will not define me. I am choosing to fight, and with your support, I know I won’t have to fight alone.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
