Join Rio's Study Abroad Journey

Hello! My name is Rio, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story with you. In recognition of my commitment to academic excellence and cross-cultural understanding, I've been honored with a spot in the Tufts in Talloires summer program. To cover the $10,000 tuition for the program, I have been working part-time and applying for external scholarships. I secured a $4500 grant from Tufts, and now I am turning to financial support from my community to cover the remaining expenses.

Money donated will directly contribute to the $5500 program tuition. Any additional funding will be used to subsidize my flights to/from Talloires, France.

Tufts in Talloires is a unique summer semester program that offers undergrads to take Tufts courses in the context of the French Alps. I will be staying with a host family, exploring Lake Annecy and the Haute-Savoie region in France, and taking classes influenced by French culture. I am particularly excited to practice my French while I'm there, which I have been studying on Duolingo!

While in Talloires, I will be taking two classes: The Chemistry of Winemaking and Sociology of Food. I will grow as a student, community member, and global citizen by participating in Tufts in Talloires. Studying in a new environment will deepen my understanding of what it means to be engaged with the world around me.

I will pay forward the values instilled in me by that cross-cultural learning experience in my future career as a healthcare professional. In patient-facing roles, I will be more empathetic for and inquisitive about diverse experiences. Thorough observation of an unfamiliar ecosystem will make me a more open-minded and creative researcher. Immersion in a unique socio-political landscape will broaden my understanding of civic engagement and make me a more efficient activist. The perspective I gain from participating in this program will benefit the communities in which I live, work, and serve.

In addition to the opportunity to enrich my education, studying at Tufts in Talloires will enable me to graduate with my class in 2026 by catching me up on credits lost when I took a medical leave of absence.
