Many of you have seen our previous GoFundMe pages. We wanted to create a new one with updated information about Riley.
In March, Riley was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that attacks the muscles and tissues in children. In Riley's case, we went in with just simple body pains. After a 20-day stay at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Arthur M. Blank Hospital, we finally received answers.
13 weeks into this new way of living, and Riley is thriving. He receives chemotherapy every Wednesday, and every 3rd Wednesday, Riley is admitted at CHOA-Arthur M. Blank for VAC treatments (3 chemos). It's typically a 24-48 hour stay.
Riley just completed his full set of scans since diagnosis, which included a PET & CT scan, 3 MRIs, and a bilateral bone marrow biopsy. The bone marrow biopsy is where they initially found the cancer. Results came in that there is NO EVIDENCE of Rhabdomyosarcoma in the bone marrow. This is HUGE! and we give GOD all the glory. However, this cancer can spread once it makes it out of the bone marrow, and it did. Riley has several spots throughout his body. The PET scan showed the spots still there, and no new spots. The spots are shrinking! We are so thankful.
We are seeing an amazing response to the chemo, and most importantly, GOD is healing Riley!
What's next? We still have to complete the full 42 weeks of chemo, TWO sets of radiation which is EVERY DAY for 6 weeks, and 1 year of maintenance chemotherapy.
The purpose of this new GoFundMe: I (Crystal) had to step away from my full-time job to take care of Riley and drive him to CHOA every time. As well as when radiation starts at Emory, we will have to drive 80 miles one way there and back every day for 6 weeks, times TWO. Riley has two little brothers, so staying in the Ronald McDonald House really isn't an option for us, and Jared still has to work.
Every 12 weeks, Riley will repeat all the scans to check the status of this nasty cancer. We ask that you continue to pray for us. Flood the gates of heaven for Riley! We want to THANK YOU if you have already been praying and if you've already given to our family. If you feel led to give again, or for your first time, we ask that you let the Lord lead you.
Thank you again,
The Hembree's
