Riley Faye was born on Feb 11, 2025. She was born with an AVSD, a congenital heart condition, which causes her to be in congestive heart failure along with Down syndrome. For a baby that her parents were encouraged to terminate because of the findings during pregnancy, Riley has really beaten the odds already and has been doing well!

On July 28th, Riley had open-heart surgery that was not able to be completed. Once in surgery, the team found unexpected complications in her heart. After 14 hours the team decided to pause surgery and stabilize Riley in the PCICU! She is now on life support via an ECMO machine, paralyzed, and on the ventilator. Riley will have another surgery later this week to try and complete her heart surgery repair. They are bringing in another surgeon from Cincinnati as a last ditch effort to save her heart tissue. Riley could be in the hospital for at least a month.

Nathan and Leigh have been wonderful parents navigating Riley’s care this far! I would like to take away some of their stress and worry as they stay in the hospital with Riley and travel back and forth from Lexington to keep life at home normal for their big kids. They will be off work while Riley is in the hospital and recovers for an extended period of time, but we all know the bills and expenses don’t stop.
