Join Richard Perez's Fight for Recovery

Donation protected
On Wednesday morning, February 21st, my brother-in-law Richard Perez, Sr. suffered a freak accident, falling backwards in his own driveway, striking his head, and suffering a catastrophic brain injury that has led to the need for continued hospitalization and 24-hour care. It is unclear what sort of long-term assistance Richard will require, but at this time he is unable to sit, stand, use the left side of his body, or effectively communicate on a consistent basis. As you can imagine, this has ended his ability to work and provide for his own needs, let alone the needs of his beautiful family.

Richard has a very, very long road to recovery ahead of him. He needs to be biologically stabilized, recover from a level 4 bed sore that has eaten through the muscles in his low back, he needs to recover his cognitive function, have his skull replaced, regain the use of his limbs, hopefully walk again, and ultimately be moved to a facility closer to his extended family down in Corpus Christi.

Unfortunately for Richard, his wife filed for divorce 2 months prior to his accident, and this presents its own challenges that will require him to hire both an Elder Law and Family Attorney. I have begun the Power of Attorney (POA) and now need to secure the funds to hire the legal team that will help him gain access to all of the available programs that both the state and federal government can offer.

Recently, Julian and I drove down to Texas for a couple of weeks to assess his needs, assist his wife with hospital visits and check out his care facility. By the second day, he was moved from his current location back to ICU and then a standard hospital room for the remainder of our time there and as of today, he’s back in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Our hearts shattered having to leave him behind and now it’s time to get to work, helping him secure his future care, to the best of our abilities.

Richard is a son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, worthy of our love and support, but in need of some temporary financial assistance that will allow us to secure the resources that will help him navigate both the legal and medical system.

How can you help? We kindly ask that you share this fundraising campaign far/wide, donate only if you can, every donation makes a difference, and/or recommend Texas based Lawyers that specialize in Family and Elder law, he’ll need both.
