Update 10/1/2024
This is not the update I was ever hoping to make. Any donations will be used to continue covering medical expenses and also be used to ensure that Amelia has everything she needs and will go towards a college fund for her.

No more pain that my love will have to endure. This past year has been the hardest. This guy being the toughest man and I know and he fought every step of the way, for his family. He wanted to be around for Amelia and I. I really don't know how I'm supposed to continue on without my best friend, my confidant, my life partner, soul mate. But I do know that he wouldn't want for me to be sad and that he would want me to continue being the best mommy I can be for Amelia.

The last few days he's been surrounded by so much love, his family, and loads of his friends from high-school gathered around, a few flew in even from out of state. This man impacted so many lives and its just a blessing to me knowing how much he was loved and how many people cared to show up and to show him that.

We are planning a celebration of life and will share the details when I know more. Because randy would want that. For everyone to celebrate the wonderful man he is, every single day of his life.

I played him the three little birds song by Bob Marley covered by Kacey Musgraves as I laid next to him as he took his final breath.

"Rise up this mornin'
Smiled with the risin' sun
Three little birds Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs Of melodies pure and true Saying', (this is my message to you)

Singing' don't worry 'bout a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright Singing' don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing 'Cause every little thing gonna be alright "

If you would like to donate to The Baker Family, it would sure mean a lot. It would help us to ensure we can continue on and help to give Amelia the best life she could possibly have, which is all Randy has ever wanted. Feel free to share the post.

I'm so lucky that I have her and I will continue to pour all of my love into her.

Were so sad that our journey ended this way but we appreciate all of the love and support we've had along the way.

Thank you,
The Baker Family

Update 9/2/2024
Today is a day of reflection on the past year of our lives. Last labor day was when we realized our lives were about to change in a lot of ways. A hard realization set in of the journey that was about to unfold. There has been a lot of ups and downs for us this past year. When this year should have been a time of joy as we watched our little one grow, we've instead had the hardest battle laid out in front of us. A new normal of endless hospital visits and rounds of chemo to fight off this nasty disease. We had anticipated being done with this by now, however it seems now that that was just a false hope that we had told ourselves in trying to stay positive throughout this past year. The past couple of months have been the hardest for sure, first when Randy was in remission and then we were getting ready to go to transplant and then that week he was hospitalized due to "pleurl effusion" for 40 days that seemed like they would never end, only to be released to travel to Houston in hopes of a second opinion and more understanding of his diagnosis, only to have to begin treatment right away since his cancer is so active and starting the most intense chemo regimen he's been given in hopes that it would do the trick to get him back into remission.

It was a challenge him being so far away from home, and he spent two weeks there as they administered the chemo, only to come home for a week and a half and then getting re-hospitalized here in Dallas this past Wednesday when he went in for what should have just been a labs visit.

His doctor told us last night that he's pretty confident that Randy now has sepsis. He's been pretty incoherent the past several days, which has been scary for me and his family to say the least. Although while scary and upsetting, it does seem that we've caught it pretty early and he's been getting the antibiotics he needs to help him to fight the infection off. It seems like his chest port might have been the root cause and had to have it removed. He has had a bone marrow biopsy and an EEG, they also plan on tapping his Omaya to check it for infection as well.

His counts are still at basically 0 after his last round of chemo (it's normal for it to take 3-4 weeks for recovery) which is making it very hard for him to fight off the infection. He's scheduled for a PET scan tomorrow which will hopefully give us some good news in terms of his tumor inside of his chest.

If all is well we may be moving on to transplant here in the near future. Please continue to pray and send good thoughts that this last round of chemo was exactly what he needed so we can continue onto the next step of this journey. We are more than ready mentally. We just need to get Randy to where he needs to be as well physically.

We really appreciate all the support from each and every one of you, this last year has felt like a never ending nightmare that has just gotten worse lately.

Thank you,

The Baker Family ❤️

My name is Julia, and I am writing with a heart full of love and a spirit fueled by hope. My husband, Randy, is a remarkable man whose strength and resilience have been a beacon for our family, especially in the darkest of times...

A year ago, our lives took an unexpected turn when Randy was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (T-ALL) after we returned from a family trip. The discovery of two mediastinal masses in his chest and a small mass in his brain began a journey of courage and determination.

Randy has faced this challenge head-on, undergoing an ommaya port placement in his head and a chest port for continuous chemotherapy treatments. His unwavering resolve led to remission, and the masses began to shrink. Throughout this ordeal, he has done what he can to continue to work as best he could in between ongoing treatments to protect our family's future and ensure he maintained his employment. If anyone knows Randy, you know he is a driven, hard-working, never-quit, loyal man. But now, we do not know at what capacity he'll be able to return to work or when and it is impacting our financial stability.

As we braced ourselves for a bone marrow stem cell transplant, fate intervened, and the cancer resurfaced. The mediastinal mass returned, larger and more threatening, pressing against his heart and lungs, causing difficulty breathing and ultimately a trip to the ICU. Emergency procedures were performed to drain the fluid buildup, and chemotherapy commenced once again.

Today, Randy is stable and healing. The tubes have been removed, and we are waiting for his immune system to recover enough for discharge. The uncertainty of the future weighs heavily upon us as we face even more rounds of chemotherapy and the hope for a rapid transplant rescheduling.

This GoFundMe campaign is a call to arms for all who believe in the power of community and the strength of the human spirit. Your support will provide for Randy's medical expenses, ensure our daughter Amelia’s well-being, and allow our family to stand strong against this relentless adversary.

We are eternally grateful for any assistance you can offer, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story. Together, we can give Randy the fighting chance he deserves.

With deepest gratitude, Julia
