A close friend of my family's and my mother's roommate, Rachel, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer and has a long road ahead.
For all that know Rachel, they would describe her as bubbly, a spitfire, kind, generous, she lights up any room she enters, religious, a cheerleader to her peers. In the last three years, Rachel has done a full 180 from struggling with substances for most of her life to devoting her life to God, recovery, and service all throughout the community. She recently reconnected with her kids and for the first time, her kids have been getting to know their mother sober. Just last month, at 43 years old, she graduated from Bible College with all the hopes and dreams that come with such an achievement.
The tragedy of watching this beautiful soul, just starting to live her life to its fullest is absolutely heartbreaking. We feel grateful to have such a beautiful community of people surrounding her with love and prayers at this time. The road ahead isn't going to be easy. My mother, her roommate, and sister in Christ and Recovery, has stepped up to be her primary caretaker and it's a blessing that these two women who started recovery at the same time have one another, always lifting one another up, celebrating each win, and holding each other through all the rough patches.
Rachel is going to need all the love, support, prayers, and any financial support we can give so she can focus on fighting this aggressive cancer.
