Join Patty his wife in Supporting Bob Kathman's Recovery
Donation protected
- Hello, my husband Bob Kathman and myself Patty Sherman at the Golden Hippo Halloween party. Bob is an animator artist for almost 10 years with Golden Hippo. Bob suffered a stroke on May 3rd, 2025, from a brain bleed which required emergency surgery to save his life. Bob has done well at the hospital and their rehab which he will be discharged from in a week. Bob has no use of his right arm and hand yet, he is right-handed. To continue physical and speech therapy Bob will go to The Center for Neuro Skills (a non-profit organization) and our insurance has denied it. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF APPEALING THE INSURANCE CO. DECISION. I will use the generous donations from here and money from my savings for his first two weeks there. Ideally Bob should have 3rd week, possibly 4th week there as well. He will need to continue on an outpatient basis as well to be able to use his right hand, arm and right leg. Any amount will help us reach our goal. I (his wife) have worked with the homeless in Los Angeles and helped two disabled homeless people find section 8 and affordable apartments as well as MediCal and other legal services to improve their lives. I also worked as a caregiver for one of these people a disabled man and his service dog till he passed away in 2021. Bob was laid off in March 13th, 2025 and we both had the health insurance through Golden Hippo. Bob is only 63 and not eligible yet for Medicare. I am eligible but stayed on my husband's insurance to save money. I have applied and only gotten Part A and I am waiting for an answer to my appeal I made because I was denied Part B. If my appeal is denied I will apply again in January 2026 during the next enrollment period that is open to me. Bob is a wonderfully talented artist. Right now, he is learning to walk and talk again through the rehab at Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital Medical Center. When Bob comes home I will be his fulltime caregiver. Yes, we hope for as much recovery as possible so that Bob can continue what he loves most, creating art. We will also need to purchase medical equipment for the home as Bob works on his recovery and home health care with professional help.
