My dear friend Norah has been living with Beta Thalassemia Major since childhood. Despite the monthly blood transfusions and treatments, they are hopeful for a cure. Beta thalassemia major is a severe blood disorder that requires lifelong medical care. If affects the body's ability to produce hemoglobin, leading to anemia and other serious complications. Over time, an influx of iron-containing hemoglobin from chronic blood transfusions can lead to a buildup of iron in the body, resulting in liver, heart, and hormone problems. This serious blood disorder has made her life a challenging journey filled with frequent hospital visits, blood transfusions and a constant fight for health. Decades of research has finally sparked a glimmer of hope for a cure for this disease. Recently she learned about a promising clinical trial that could be a potential cure, but it comes with significant costs. She not only needs financial help for attending the trial and medical bills but also for everyday expenses as she can no longer work . She will be undergoing extensive chemotherapy and gene therapy. Participating in this trial represents a glimmer of hope for a better future for Norah and for all others battling Beta thalassemia.
