Many of you know Niko Rogina as a vibrant 15-year-old kid who is always on the go and has a big smile and a love for hockey. He is still that kid, However he is now using that energy to fight cancer.
In early February, Niko injured his knee during a hockey game. Because of this injury, Niko went in for an MRI, while his knee was ok, the results showed that there was an "incidental finding" of a mass on the lower part of his femur (thigh bone). This discovery led to immediate action and a referral to Children’s Oncology at the University of Minnesota. On Friday, 3/1/24, Niko underwent biopsy surgery, which confirmed that he has High-Grade Osteosarcoma…bone cancer.
His treatment plan is intense, costly, and moving quickly. He kicked off chemo on 3/11 and as of right now he is in the midst of his 3rd round of chemo. He is scheduled for surgery on 7/5/24 where they will be taking part of his femur which will be replaced with a metal rod as well as a full knee replacement. There will be 3 more rounds of chemo that will follow after his surgery.
Medical expenses are quickly adding up. This GoFundMe page aims to help alleviate the financial burden and barriers associated with lifesaving treatments. These treatments are necessary for Niko to fight this awful battle. Your generous financial support will Niko's family the peace of mind to dedicate their attention to his well-being.
Thank you for anything you can do to help this family out!
