In September 2020, I found out I carry the BRCA2 gene mutation — something that significantly increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. After living with that knowledge and monitoring closely, in October 2024, I discovered lumps and made the tough but proactive decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy. I chose having a full life with my children over constant worry.
In April 2025, I had the double mastectomy surgery with tissue expanders placed — the first step toward reconstruction. It's been a physically and emotionally challenging journey, but I’ve stayed focused on healing and staying strong for the future.
September 16th I’ll be undergoing breast reconstruction surgery. Full recovery is expected to take 6 to 8 weeks, during which I won’t be able to work. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen expenses this year, my savings are completely depleted. I’ve only been back to work for just over 2 months, which is not enough time to save any extra money— and that’s why I’m reaching out.
I’m asking for support to help cover:
Mortgage and bills while I recover
Transportation to follow-up appointments
Medical-related costs not covered by insurance
Basic living expenses during my unpaid time off
