Join Nic's Journey: From Cancer to Recovery

Hello Folks,

My name is Nic Nichols (He/They), and I'm happy to share that I'm now cancer-free.

My medical journey began in May 2024. I contracted Pneumonia, and then in September 2024, I contracted COVID-19. After months of advocating for my health and jumping the hurdles of insurance and medical tests, I was informed on November 26th that the cause of my weakened immune system was because I had a rare form of Lung Cancer - NeuroEndocrine Tumors (NETs)

I was promised support and advocacy, but as many of you might imagine, I did not receive much.

Despite that, I dug deep and advocated for myself in hopes of getting whatever procedures done before the end of the fiscal year and saving myself from the kind of medical debt that 3 million Americans owe more than $10,000. And I succeeded. On December 27th, I got the necessary surgery to remove the tumor and infected tissue in my left lung, which would have been a death sentence.

But the fight is not over.

I recently learned that, although my job is safe until late March, I'm ineligible for disability pay as a part-time employee.

I've been on leave since December 23rd and was expecting some disability pay to offset the expenses while in recovery. Usually, I'd work some side gigs to supplement my income, but while recovering from thoracic surgery, my physical activity is limited. Because of it, I've already had to turn down several gigs and opportunities.

I didn't want to start a GoFundMe because there are so many others in need, but I'm close to maxing out my credit card because I was relying on getting paid disability.

Donations will reimburse previously limited expenses, pending medical bills, and future expenditures while on medical leave.

GOAL: = $7553.01 ($7,775 due to GoFundMe fees)

If you can not donate, I understand. Sharing this campaign on at least one of your social media networks is also helpful. Another option for some support is patronizing my Bookshop for the bookish crowd.

I have run into rough times but don't know how to quit.

Thank you for being open to my story.

Be well + stay kind.
