My name is Nicky. I'm Jackson's mom. Jackson has had a very rough year. Five months ago, Jackson had a neck injury which was treated by a veterinarian with steroids. Every time Jackson was taken off the medicine, he was in pain in his neck. I switched to a different veterinarian due to Jackson not getting better. Jackson was put back on medication for his neck pain (prednisone). Jackson's new vet said bloodwork is not necessary at this time. He started seeing this new vet in June. Jackson had an appointment with his vet due to feeling nauseous, drinking a lot of water, and not eating. Jackson was sent home with Cerenia for nausea pills and an injection. As we pulled out of the parking lot, he threw up. I went back inside the office and was told it takes time for the nausea med to work.
I brought him home. The next few days, he would eat small amounts and then later in the day get sick. I called the vet and brought him in. I told the vet I gave Jackson some sub-q fluids due to him being dehydrated from not being able to keep anything down. As I placed Jackson on the table, I asked the veterinarian, "How about now? Does he look like he needs bloodwork NOW?" Bloodwork came back, and Jackson was diabetic and in ketoacidosis. We immediately rushed him to the closest emergency hospital that could treat him.
Jackson's glucose was over 700. For the next six days, they stabilized him, but he continued not to eat. Dr. Kwon said he could go home only if he ate. I fed my boy as much as he would eat; it was enough to be discharged. Jackson will need regular exams, a special RX diet, and medicine to help him live as healthy a life as he can. I'm raising money for his future care, and the medical bills are extremely high. Jackson is on insulin 2xs a day and on a prescription diet. Please help me help him by donating if you can or sharing this. Thank you.
