Friends and Family,
We hope you are all doing well. It has been some time since we updated you all on Nick’s condition. Before we do that, we would like to thank all of you for your overwhelming love and support you have had for our family over the last two years. Your prayers, generosity, and well wishes have helped bring light to this trying time.
Nick underwent his stem cell transplant last year in March after having clear scans. The procedure was successful in the short term, but a few months later the cancer returned. Over the course of the last year, he has undergone several different chemotherapy treatments to treat the cancer and it has been a roller coaster of events and emotions. Praise God, Nick’s most recent scans were clear for the next step.
The past few months, Nick has again been prepping for another stem cell transplant, only this time, the doctors will be using donor cells for the procedure. Nick’s family members were tested to determine who would be the most suitable donor, and as of now, Nick’s oldest sister Brittany is the best match.
Brittany will be undergoing a series of tests and preparation over a period of twelve days at the Mayo Clinic to prepare her body for the donation of the stem cells.
After the transplant, Nick will again be hospitalized for a period of about 3 weeks. Once he is released from the hospital, Nick is required by doctors to live no more than 30 min from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale for 100 days minimum in case any complications arise. The stem cell transplant will have higher risks this time around, so the family greatly appreciates the continued prayers.
With all of this being said, the Barreiro family is again experiencing an onset of heavy expenses that come with all that is needed for the transplant to be successful.
Nick’s mom, Kam, had to relocate to El Paso for her job. So, on top of the new medical expenses the transplant brings, we will also have to cover expenses for travel for family and accommodations for Nick during the 100+ day period before and after the procedure.
As we said before, we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support, generosity, and love you have shown our family in the last few years. We hope that you will consider helping us again as the expenses exponentially increase with Nick’s upcoming procedure.
Thank you again for all you have done for our family - we don’t have enough words to express our gratitude!
