So those of you who know me probably know, or know of Mookie, my sweet boy kitty who was my grandparents' before they passed, and has been with me since 2016.
Mookie is getting up there in age, but is still not what I would consider "old" for an indoor only cat, and in fact he is still quite spry, and full of life.
Which is why the news we just got is especially upsetting.
Over the last month, Mookie has been getting a little skinny, and showing less and less interest in eating the dry food half of his diet. Today at the vet, we unfortunately found out this is because Mookie has a large mass on his lower abdomen that is very likely cancer.
The good news is, Mookie still has good energy levels, is still eating his wet food with gusto, is still able to get around, and does not seem to be in a lot of pain. Because of this, his vet wants to go forward to try to get a more definitive diagnosis, and look into potential treatment. He is not at the end of his journey just yet, and we want to give him as much quality time as possible.
The bad news is, this is going to get expensive very, very fast. As you all know, I had surgery in early April, which of course was a huge cost, I've had complications since then that have drained my available funds, and I haven't been able to perform in drag or work my hair and makeup jobs with the opera and the Broadway tours, which is how I typically get money in addition to my day job.
I do not want the fact that I can't afford it to be the reason why Mookie isn't able to get the treatment he needs for his condition.
Mookie has been with me through some of the hardest times of my life, he is a living connection to my Mimi and Pop Pop, and I want to make sure he gets a fighting chance to beat this. If there was no hope and it was just a matter of keeping him comfortable, I wouldn't be as determined to find a way for him to get this treatment. But he is still full of love and sass and plenty of life, so it just doesn't feel right to not give him the chance of a couple more years.
Please help if you can, and I am so grateful.
Much love,
Jensen and Mookie
