On Tuesday, November 26th, Mikel experienced a sudden and severe health crisis when he suffered a first-time seizure due to a spontaneous brain bleed. After being rushed to the hospital, he was admitted to the ICU where doctors ran multiple tests and imaging. Unfortunately, the severity of his condition required brain surgery. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and Mikel continues to receive round-the-clock care in the hospital as he begins his recovery.

However, the financial burden of this unexpected emergency is already overwhelming. Though Mikel and his spouse have insurance, the high deductible and out-of-pocket expenses are considerable. On top of this, Mikel faces a medical hold on his driver's license, which means he won’t be able to drive to follow-up appointments for at least three months. He also won’t be cleared to return to work for up to two months, depending on the pace of his recovery. The loss of his income during this time is creating significant strain on their financial situation.

Mikel and his spouse have only been married for just over a month, and instead of celebrating their new life together, they are facing an entirely unexpected reality.
