Join Meghan's Battle Against Aplastic Anemia
Donation protected
Hello - My name is Samantha, I've created this GoFundMe for my baby Sister Meghan. She is the most kindhearted, loving, giving, caring, kindred spirited, funny, and amazingly talented 23 year old I know. Her world turned upside down a few weeks ago when she was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. This is a very rare life threatening blood condition where your marrow -- the spongy stuff inside your bones -- cannot make enough new blood cells for your body to work normally. About 2 out of every 1 million people in the US are diagnosed with this. There are many steps that need to be taken before she is all better. She will need multiple transfusions weekly to survive until a bone marrow transplant occurs if a donor can be found. (We are currently waiting on the results to see if any of the family members are matches, if we are not, she will be put on a donors list). Before the transplant can happen, she will need to go through Chemotherapy to get rid of the existing damaged bone marrow. They will also need to lower her immune system so she can accept the new bone marrow. This is a very 'out of nowhere' diagnosis and I just want to be able to help her feel as comfortable as possible, without the stress of financials. If you are able to donate, even a small donation, please help. Please also send prayers & healing vibes her way.
The generous donations will go towards the following costs:
- Apartment/AirBnb in Rochester (3 hours away from home, requirement for the transplant patient). She will need to be seen at the hospital daily before/after the transplant. Estimated 3-4 months. Average cost is $2200-2500 a month.
- Gas to and from multiple appointments before moving to Rochester. The hospital is about 2-3 hours away from her home.
- She will be missing about 8 months of work during this process as she needs to rest and stay away from people/places where she can acquire an infection. This could be detrimental to a person with aplastic anemia.
- Medical Expenses for the Bone Marrow Transplant, the blood/platelet transfusions, follow up appointments, medication, chemo prior to the transplant, and more.
- Provide a caregiver for her when she is in recovery and unable to work.
Thank you so much for your support and prayers.
