Hello my name is Matt and in March of this year 2024 I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
I was a healthy individual who worked out regularly and one day I could not get out of bed, consume much food, or even go to the bathroom. With the help of my mom we headed to the emergency room in which the doctors located a bowel obstruction which in turn was a tumor the size of a toddlers fist. Prior to surgery I then almost went into a diabetic coma which landed me in the ICU. After stabilizing me and being monitored for a perforation of my colon it was time for surgery. What was to be a two hour surgery turned into almost 6 hours. The procedure removed approximately 90% of the tumor and the rest was left on an artery in which they could not remove as I could bleed out.
After approximately two months of healing from surgery I started undergoing chemotherapy. I currently finished 5 sessions and have not been able to undergo further treatment due to low blood counts. I am expected by the cancer center to do the minimum amount of treatments which would end in December of 2024.
It has been a true challenge physically, mentally, and financially. I have currently been through financial trouble as I await determination from the state for pay as bills start to pile up. From funds needed to purchase medication, to striving to keep benefits has been a challenge. I am looking to raise money to help with the necessities to continue the fight and complete this journey to the other side which is defeating cancer.
