Join Mati's fight against Ameloblastoma

Hello everyone, my name is Camila Klas. I am setting up this GoFund with the hope of helping my family with the upcoming medical bills. On September 15th of 2022, my younger brother, Matias, was diagnosed with Ameloblastoma, a benign but invasive rare tumor.

My little brother is the most caring and hard working person I know. He just turned 20 this past October, he is passionated about soccer and currently plays for his college team. He is family oriented and brave.

In his case, the tumor is in his right lower jaw. Matias was first treated with an oncologic treatment but after 9 months, the surgery became the next step. Matias will undergo a very extensive surgery called fibula-free flap (FFF), It will be performed within December 2023.

The surgery only will last between 12 to 16 hours and consists of removing his right lower jaw bone and replacing the bone with a titanium plate and bone graft as well as replacing all of the teeth on that side. (it will take between 12 and 18 months to complete the reconstruction process)

Our family has already spent thousands and thousands on specialists, MRI's, CT Scans and X-rays, biopsies and we still will have to face with a few other thousands for surgery costs. This doesn’t include any cost for the teeth implants that will come later once his jaw has completely healed.

This is a very tough moment and I would hate to see him or my parents stress over medical bills instead of focusing on having a safe and speedy recovery!

Hola a todos, mi nombre es Camila Klas. Estoy creando este GoFund con la esperanza de ayudar a mi familia con las próximas facturas médicas. El 15 de septiembre de 2022, a mi hermano menor, Matías, le diagnosticaron ameloblastoma, un tumor raro, benigno pero invasivo.

Mi hermano pequeño es la persona más cariñosa y trabajadora que conozco. Acaba de cumplir 20 años en este octubre pasado, es un fanático apasionado del fútbol y actualmente juega en el equipo de su universidad.

En su caso, el tumor se encuentra en la mandíbula inferior derecha. Matías fue tratado primero con un tratamiento oncológico pero después de 9 meses, la cirugía se convirtió en un paso inevitable y necesario. Matías se someterá a una cirugía muy extensa llamada colgajo libre de peroné (también llamada fibula-free flap en inglés), que se realizará dentro de diciembre de 2023.

La cirugía sola dura entre 12 a 16 horas y consiste en extraer el hueso de la mandíbula inferior derecha y reemplazar el hueso con una placa de titanio e injerto óseo, así como reemplazar todos los dientes de ese lado. (Se necesitarán entre 12 y 18 meses para completar el proceso de reconstrucción)

Nuestra familia ya ha gastado miles y miles en especialistas, resonancias magnéticas, tomografías computarizadas, rayos X, biopsias y todavía tendremos que afrontar algunos miles más por costos de cirugía. Esto no incluye ningún costo por los implantes dentales que se colocarán más adelante una vez que su mandíbula haya sanado por completo.

¡Este es un momento muy difícil y odiaría verlo a mi hermano o a mis padres estresarse por las facturas médicas en lugar de concentrarse en tener una recuperación rápida y segura!
