Dear Friends and Family,
I am reaching out to you today because my brother Jake and sister-in-law Beth are facing a challenging medical situation for their youngest son, Martin. He has been diagnosed with Coats Disease and is undergoing treatment, which includes cryo and laser surgeries, surgeries to remove fluid in the eye, and surgeries where they cut into the back of the eye. The medical bills are quickly adding up, and they are struggling to keep up with the costs, as there is no specialist for Coats Disease in Nebraska, so they must travel five and a half hours to the closest specialist for surgeries and appointments!
This GoFundMe is to help cover the costs of surgeries, doctor appointments, travel expenses to get to Denver, and the cost of staying close to the hospital when surgeries are over until the next day's follow-up! The total estimated expenses are over $40,000 already, and any contribution, no matter how small, would be appreciated.
Martin was diagnosed with Coats Disease in May 2024 after three years of being misdiagnosed with a lazy eye in the left eye because he was turning his eye to see since he was blind in his right eye due to Coats Disease without us knowing! He has gone through six surgeries in the first year and will have another major surgery coming up in August unless someone cancels in July, then they will move it up! He and his family's lives have been turned upside down by having to make changes to home life, school life, and much more due to the cost burdens that have come along with these surgeries and treatments! They still have a long road ahead of them as this is not a disease that will ever be fully gone, and his vision in his right eye will more than likely not improve much, if at all! He will fight this for his whole life, but we are in great hope that it will get to where surgeries and treatments will be spread out more, and he will be able to hopefully one day live a more normal life without being in the hospital for surgeries and treatments as often!
Your support means the world to all of us. It not only helps with the financial burden but also provides the emotional support they need during this challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
