Help Me Save a Gentle Soul – $750 Starting Goal for Emergency Tail Amputation
Hi everyone,
You may know me as the owner of Harmony at Home Pet Care, someone who’s always had a soft spot for animals – especially those in need. Today, I’m reaching out not just as a pet sitter, but as a person who found something broken on her doorstep… and couldn’t look away.
On the morning of Wednesday, May 28th, I opened my front door and was met with a heartbreaking sight – a black and white cat, covered in blood, limping and terrified. He bolted before I could get a good look, but I knew he was badly hurt. My heart dropped. I immediately called Roberta, a volunteer with Great Tails Animal Rescue, and then reached out to Jen – a board member and co-owner of Bark and Beyond, LLC. Together, we quickly put together a plan.
Unsure if any local shelter could offer help or medical care, we agreed on one thing – I’d try to catch him first, and we’d go from there. I set up a camera and began monitoring the neighborhood cats. I couldn’t stop thinking about the look in his eyes – scared, but still holding onto some sliver of trust. Eventually, I saw it clearly on the footage: his tail was mangled, the skin peeled back, bones likely broken. He was suffering.
It took days – and one very confused raccoon – but I finally caught him on June 2nd.
I named him Marble. He’s now safe inside my home, currently curled up in the top of my bathroom closet, too frightened to come down. He’s a gentle soul, and despite the pain, he hasn’t once hissed or lashed out. He’s just… quietly hurting. The base of his tail is torn to the muscle, the rest is bent and shattered in several places, and he’s missing skin and fur on his back legs. With how mangled the tail is, it will need to be amputated to prevent infection and give him a chance at a pain-free life.
The procedure, including aftercare, will cost around $750. I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do it alone.
If you're able to donate, it would mean the world – not just to me, but to this small, frightened creature who’s finally getting a second chance. Donations can be made online through this fundraiser, or in person at Bark and Beyond, LLC, who’ve been incredible partners and supporters through all of this.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing this message or sending a kind word goes a long way. Thank you for taking a moment to read Marble’s story. He may be broken, but he’s not beyond healing – and neither is the compassion that brings us all together.
With gratitude,
Hannah Quirk
