Hi, I’m Viviane D’Avilla. I’m a filmmaker and the director of a documentary about Mapulu Kamayurá, the first female shaman of the Xingu people, deep in the Amazon rainforest.

For the past five years, we’ve been following Mapulu’s journey — as a healer, a leader, and a symbol of Indigenous feminism in Brazil.

Recently, Mapulu founded a new village called Hiulaya, a matriarchal community where she lives with her family and her people. But the village is still very new and fragile. They don’t have access to clean water, healthcare, transportation, or proper sanitation.

Mapulu has been trying to gather support, but it’s been very difficult to meet even the most basic needs.

That’s why, together with Mapulu’s family and the Hiulaya Association, we decided to launch this emergency support campaign.

We want to help build essential infrastructure in the village — starting with clean water, a bathroom, and basic health support. These are urgent needs for the community to thrive and live with dignity.
