In November of 2022, Maliya was diagnosed with Pectus Excavatum. This is a condition in which the breastbone sinks into the chest. She underwent surgery, in April of 2023, and had a metal bar implanted into her chest. This was supposed to solve the issue of her “heart hurting”, but since then, through continuous pain, she has been diagnosed with a congenial heart condition, and tachycardia. Through multiple doctors, fighting to prove it wasn’t in her head, nor was it her Pectus issue, she was finally diagnosed with Right Coronary Artery Anomaly, as well as Tachycardia. This condition, RCA, affects only 1% of the worlds population, and is one of the main causes of SDS, or Sudden Death Syndrome. Now, she must undergo two surgeries, only a month apart, one to remove the metal bar in her chest, and the other being open heart surgery, to correct her RCA.

She has had her life put on hold since 2022, thinking it would only be six months, and she could get on with her life, but it has been setback, after setback, and only now has she been successfully diagnosed. She will have to travel to, and from her appointments in Charleston, which will require hotel stays, food, gas, and any other travel expenses that may arise. The second surgery will require a minimum six day stay in the ICU, and CCU units, at MUSC. Both of our parents will have to take turns missing work, to provide around the clock care for her, following both of her surgeries.
