My name is Chrishabbi Larkins and I write this on behalf of my best friend, my husband, the father of our two children, my soulmate, Louis, to help raise funds to support Louis on what will be a lifelong journey.
On July 16, 2025 (the day before our daughter’s 7th birthday), the day started off normal. Our family of 4 was up by 6 am. I got our youngest ready for camp while he packed her lunch (he packs the best lunches). Briefly, Louis complained of some abdominal pain. Figuring he must have just eaten something bad the night before, he said he would buy some upset stomach meds (Pepto, Gas-X) over the counter at CVS to see if it would help... but the pain got worse. Louis made the decision that since we had a huge party planned that weekend to celebrate our baby girl, he did something RARE and called off work sick so he could rest the ache away. Fast forward to midday, I waited for my daily 12 noon call from my husband.
Louis and I have a lunch date call every single day when we are at work. So, rightfully, I was shocked and worried when that call didn't come. When I finally reached him, I became even more worried when he said, “I called out of work, hun.” Those of you that know Louis know one thing for certain: HE IS ALWAYS AT WORK. His thinking was that we had a ton planned to prepare for baby girl's water slide birthday party (mow the lawn, trim the hedges, food shopping; he even got our handyman to come replace rotted wood on our deck so kids wouldn’t hurt themselves or get splinters). He would stay home and rest. In typical Louis fashion, he wanted to be in tip-top shape for he and I to host our guests for our princess’s special day. We would have never imagined our plans and life as we know it were going to change in a short few hours.
By 3 pm, I got a call from Louis, barely able to talk. The stomach ache we thought was gas was now 10/10 pain, and he was being rushed to the ER by our amazing 19-year-old son, Chris. I dashed out of work early because again, LOUIS DOESN'T JUST GO TO THE ER, not for what we thought was a belly ache.
Things moved eerily fast at the ER. He was having CT imaging and X-rays within an hour or so from arriving, which was great. In and out, we thought. Then, at around 6 pm, only 3 hours after arriving, 3 doctors and his nurse approached. As I sat at the end of my husband's hospital bed rubbing his feet, doctors delivered us gut-punching news. Louis, a 44-year-old, seemingly healthy husband, father, son, brother, and friend, was told the pain he is feeling was not gas.
They found a sizeable tumor in his colon which was obstructing his bowels, along with spots on his lungs and liver. He would require urgent surgery to remove the tumor and to test for cancer. 24 hours or so later, Louis geared up for what ended up being a 4-hour surgery to remove the tumor that was causing him such pain.
On 7/31/2025, test results came back. Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer, that had spread to his lungs and liver. Words cannot even begin to describe the agony, helplessness, and fear that riddles your body when hearing doctors say, “you have cancer.”
Well, cancer picked the wrong one because Louis IS A FIGHTER AND IS GOING TO BEAT THIS MONSTER. He has an incredible team at Dana-Farber, a faithful family of support, and friends that are more like family rallying around him. With his surgery being a success, and allowing some time to heal, Louis is set to begin chemotherapy on 8/11/2025.
We are humbly asking for your support, prayers, and for donations of any amount. As one can imagine, your thoughtful donations will help to directly ease the already mounting financial burden unleashed by this crisis.
God bless you all and squeeze your loved ones a little tighter tonight.
With love,
-Chris
