Join Lori in Healing Rylo's Broken Hip

My name is Lori and I volunteer with dogs all the time. I volunteer at the shelter and help multiple rescues. I transport dogs all the time.

Yesterday, I was transporting a dog from neglectful owners to a new adopter when I noticed something wasn’t right. I immediately took Rylo to the emergency vet and found out he has a broken hip- the top of his femoral head broke right off. (The vet thinks he had a genetic abnormality that was never treated and eventually got so bad it broke.) Rylo now needs FHO surgery and quotes are $4-6k. Plus the $840 I spent on diagnostics yesterday.

The adopter doesn’t have the means to care for Rylo so he is safe with me and my pack (I already have 5 dogs, one with valley fever and one with cerebellar hypoplasia). He is safe and comfortable on pain meds and sedatives and crate rest.

Rylo has lived a life full of neglect. When I picked him up he was on a patio in 110 degree weather and this is where he lived unless they brought him inside to his crate. They also didn’t want to give him water because he would urinate in the crate so he would run to the bathroom to drink out of the toilet when he could. When he was neutered they left his cone on for weeks and didn’t check it and it ended up embedded and he needed stitches.

Rylo deserves a chance at a pain-free life. He’s only 10 months old and is as sweet as can be. He loves being with my pack and hanging out inside with us.
