Hello, I am Logan Tangredi’s mom, Shae Montegna. Logan is 21. On Mother’s Day weekend, he was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer: nonseminoma mediastinal germ cell tumor in his chest. The cancer spread through his jaw, neck, and diaphragm. He has been undergoing rigorous inpatient chemotherapy treatments. At the beginning of September, he will undergo a CT scan to determine if the cancer spread has resolved with the chemotherapy. The large mass in his chest, between his lungs, is large enough that he will have to undergo surgery. The surgery will require his sternum to be split for the best route and exposure of the mass.
We will be traveling and staying in Indiana, where they have cardiothoracic oncology surgeons who specialize in germ cell cancers.
If you can, please consider donating for travel expenses. He’ll have to go to the cardiac intensive care unit after the surgery and likely stay for three to four weeks postoperative.
Please keep Logan and his care team in your thoughts, prayers, and good vibes.
